A bit about Mark
Mark is a professional full-time travel writer and radio broadcaster. Through his photos and words he strives to immerse himself in the experiences of travel, to communicate through vivid narratives, to inspire and engage readers.
A traveller from a young age, he studied geography at London University and worked initially as a park ranger in the Cotswolds. This instilled a love of the great outdoors yet by this stage he was already selling travel articles. He then decided to dedicate himself to travel and studied for a masters in journalism at the prestigious London College of Printing.
For nearly two decades he has been a dedicated travel writer. He writes stories for many national magazines and newspapers and appears regularly on BBC's From Our Correspondent. His work has also appeared in the American, French, and Australian media.
Travelling to more than 140 countries he has covered stories in remote communities, undertaken physically demanding adventures in rainforests, deserts, and high-altitude mountains, made long journeys overland, and covered some of the great cultural festivals of the world.
He embraces the aspects of travel that are not necessarily the perfect Instagram alongside more sublime moments of life on the road. With his passion and enjoyment for photography he is able to add colour to his writing.
As a keen naturalist he follows environmental stories around the world. He works with tourist boards and local tour operators to promote less heralded destinations that are crying out for sustainable tourism to enrich local communities and protect ecosystems.
He is also a keen cyclist and regularly trials new long distance touring routes in Europe and further afield.
In between his travels he occasionally makes it home to the wild moors of Dartmoor National Park.
